Potential reactivity assessment of mechanically activated kaolin as alternative cement precursor

This work aims to assess the potential reactivity of a mechanically activated kaolin for its use as an alternative cement precursor. The mechanical activation was successfully achieved by grinding at different rotation speeds (250, 300, and 350 rpm) times (60, 90, 120 min), obtaining highly amorphous reactive material. amorphization monitored through XRD with content estimation FTIR deconvolution. evaluated chemical attacks, SiO2 Al2O3 availabilities up 95 wt% 93 total content. also allowed identification non-reactive phases on insoluble residue after attacks. NMR analysis revealed that part aluminium in IV coordination, limiting alkali process. demonstrated effectiveness greener treatment than thermal dehydroxylation increase raw kaolin's reactivity.
